Above pictured, is an old art form called Intarsia. The flying crow is a military squadron symbol, which we duplicated down to the finest detail. “Intarsia” is the craft of using varied shapes, sizes and species of wood fitted together to create an almost 3-D inlaid, mosaic-like picture. It was originally developed in Siena, Italy in the 13th century. Selecting different types of wood, using its natural grain patterns and colors, to create the different colors in the pattern, create intarsia. Each piece of wood is then individually crafted by cutting, shaping, sanding, and finishing before fitting them together like a jig saw puzzle. The Intarsia Symbol was produced with American Black Walnut, Northern Hard Maples, African mahogany and Ebony Macassar hardwoods. Each piece was hand cut, carved and shaped, giving it the3-D effect and its life like appearance.
